Windows search highlights will be rolled out, but can be disabled

In Windows 11 Insider 22572, Microsoft started to roll out the search highlights. With KB5011543, they are now being gradually introduced in Windows 10.

As a result, the view of the search changes once, and the “interesting information about the special features of each day” is displayed. In other words, MSN news is now also integrated into the search. But these new search highlights can be disabled in a number of ways.

On Windows 10:

  • Right-click in the taskbar -> Search and then disable it there
  • Via Run -> gpedit.msc (Group Policy) via Local Computer Policies -> Computer Configuration -> Administrative Templates -> Windows Components -> Search. Then in the right part of the window “Allow search highlights”.
  • This setting must be disabled and the search highlights will no longer appear.
  • In the registry: HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Policies\Microsoft\Windows\Windows Search

DWORD (32-bit) value EnableDynamicContentInWSB
0 = Disabled
1 = Enabled
Or directly deactivate the web search (Bing).

On Windows 11:

  • In Settings -> Privacy and Security and there under Search.
  • Via Run -> gpedit.msc (Group Policy) via Local Computer Policies -> Computer Configuration -> Administrative Templates -> Windows Components -> Search. Then in the right part of the window “Allow search highlights”.
  • This setting must be disabled and the search highlights will no longer appear.
  • In the registry: HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Policies\Microsoft\Windows\Windows Search

DWORD (32-bit) value EnableDynamicContentInWSB
0 = Disabled
1 = Enabled
Or directly deactivate the web search in the search

This new search has not yet appeared for me. Maybe with you already. It will probably be a while before everyone sees the new search highlights. (Assuming web search wasn’t already disabled).
